Project Coordination

Tehlsee Communications has coordinated the Pictou Airshed Management Project (Pictou-AMP) in northern Nova Scotia.

The work included carrying out the objectives of a manager and an advisory committee comprising representatives of a community-based environmental group, a federal government department and three major industries.

The Pictou Harbour Environmental Protection Project (PHEPP) is managing the project. The other major partners are Environment Canada, Neenah Paper (formerly Kimberly-Clark), Michelin Canada and Nova Scotia Power. The project also involves working closely with Nova Scotia Environment and Labour (NSEL), which regulates air emissions in the province.

The community airshed project in Pictou County is the most detailed of its kind in Nova Scotia and could serve as a model for other regional airshed projects.

Coordination activities, working with the manager and advisory committee, have included:

conducting internet research of airshed management systems worldwide
organizing a workshop on air dispersion modelling
facilitating advisory committee meetings
developing an air emissions inventory
conducting a telephone survey of county residents to determine wood heating use
supervising a vehicle emissions clinic
participating in the organization of an energy symposium
preparing a PowerPoint presentation on energy and air emissions
participating in a workshop on community-based social marketing
increasing community awareness of air quality issues by

compiling progress reports and preparing funding applications
